When users sign a campaign, we send them an email thanking them for signing the petition and asking them to share the petition on social media. When determining the content of that message, we'll check a few places.
- First, we look to see if the thank you message has been overridden at the petition level. Overriding at this petition level is described below.
- If no override is set at the petition level and if the petition is included in a partnership, we'll use any overrides in the partnership's settings.
- If no override is included in the partnership's settings (or if the petition is not in a partnership), and the petition is included in an effort or landing page, then we'll use any overrides included in the landing page or effort's settings.
- If no override is included in the effort or landing page's settings (or if the petition has no special associations), then we'll use the global default message.
To override the thank you for signing message for a single petition, go to the petition's admin settings page (petition signature page > Admin > Settings tab), expand the After Signing section, and check the box labeled Override default thank you for signing email content.
Enter the message that you'd like to use and click the Save button at the end of this section. This will change the message that is sent to future petition signers.
Keep in mind that this message is written in HTML and the override should be in HTML too. It can be helpful to click the "Reset Email Text to Default" button, which will give you the current, platform-wide thank you email HTML.
Also keep in mind about this feature: the email that's sent to signers is made up of two messages – a 'thank you for signing' message, which is followed by a 'forward to friends' message. This override will only change the first message, not the 'forward to friends' portion of the email, which is set globally (and at the partnership, landing page, and effort level).
