The welcome modal is an optional post-signing action that can be set up by org admins. When enabled, signers see a welcome message explaining who you are and what you do. We realize that many signers who have been brought to the petition site by a friend or family member may not be familiar with the organization itself. Using this modal, you can introduce your organization to new signers and provide information about the work you're doing.
We hope that this modal will encourage new signers to learn more about your organization and take additional action, whether by signing additional petitions, donating, or creating their own petition. By encouraging additional action, we hope that these new members will become active supporters, instead of signing one petition and never being heard from again.
Including a welcome modal in the post-action flow is available for individual petitions and events (from the petition or event's admin > Settings) and can be set as default behavior for all petitions or events (from the platform's Settings > Post Action Flow). It's also possible to show this flow to new users only.
Q: If my organization configures the welcome modal to only show to new members, how does ControlShift know if a user is new?
A: After a user clicks to sign a petition, ControlShift queries your CRM (currently: ActionKit, Engaging Networks, and Salsa) to see if the member is new. When the user clicks to "Skip this step" in the social share modal, ControlShift checks to see if the CRM has responded with whether the user is new or not. If it has, ControlShift will use that information to determine what after action the user sees. If the CRM has not responded, or if you are not using a CRM listed above, then the modal is displayed, or not, based on whether the signer is new to your ControlShift database.
Q: How do I customize the text of the modal?
A: Organizations can customize the text of the welcome modal for petitions from Settings > Content > Petitions > Title for welcome modal and Text for welcome modal.
Organizations can customize the text of the welcome modal for events from Settings > Content > Events > Title for welcome modal and Text for welcome modal.
The text for the welcome modal accepts HTML for more advanced customizations.
Q: What happens if a user clicks one of the buttons?
A: If a user clicks to start a campaign, their petition will be tagged with the source code "welcome."
If the user clicks to see more campaigns, they'll be brought to the categories/site directory page.
If they click to donate, they'll be taken to the external donation site that your organization has configured. (By adding a URL for the donation page to the Destination URL for the 'Make a donation' button in the welcome modal box, which is included in the organization's Settings > Options > Petitions.)
Q: Are the buttons and title always blue?
A: No, the buttons and title will be displayed in your site's accent color.
Q: Cool! How do I turn this on for my organization?
A: You can enable the welcome message for the platform as a whole from the org admin homepage > Settings > Post Action Flow. You can enable the modal for a single petition or event from the petition or event's admin page > Settings > After Signing or After RSVPing.
