When a user signs a campaign or RSVPs to an event, they'll often be asked if they want to be subscribed to updates about the campaign or event. If the petition or event is included in a partnership, the user may also be asked if they want to be added to the partner's mailing list. (Whether a user sees these asks, what they look like, and the text that's used, are all customizable by the organization. Learn more.)
If the user subscribes to updates, they'll be added to that petition, event, or partnership's mailing list. Blast emails sent by the petition creator, event host, and partner admin will always include the option to unsubscribe at the bottom of the email. (Unless the email recipient is a co-leader or co-admin of the petition, event, or partnership.)
If the user clicks the unsubscribe button, they'll be brought to the platform's unsubscribe page. Depending on what the user is unsubscribing from, and the site's configuration, the user will see different options on this page. All users will see the option to unsubscribe from the specific campaign, event, or partnership whose blast email they clicked the link from.
This page is specific for the individual user and the individual email that they're coming from – there isn't a static unsubscribe page that you can send all users to. Instead, we'll track each unsubscribe request individually so that you know who unsubscribed from what.
If the organization has our global unsubscribes feature enabled, the user will also see the option to unsubscribe from all organization emails.
If the user only choose the 'unsubscribe from this campaign/event/partnership' option, or if the organization has not enabled global unsubscribes, the user will only be unsubscribed from that specific petition/event/partnership. They will remain subscribed to updates from any other petitions/events/partnerships that they've opted into previously. This specific unsubscribe will also not affect their subscription status in the organization's CRM or main mailing tool.
If the global unsubscribes option is enabled, and the user chooses to unsubscribe from all organization emails, their subscriptions to all events/petitions/partnerships in ControlShift will be updated and they will no longer receive updates via ControlShift. If your organization is using a CRM that we sync global unsubscribes to, we'll also update their unsubscribe status in your CRM.
All unsubscribe information is also included in the unsubscribe export from the admin homepage > Members > Unsubscribes. For organizations that have the global unsubscribes option enabled but whose CRM we're unable to sync global unsubscribes, admins will need to use the unsubscribe CSV export to manually keep their CRM up to date.
More information about the global unsubscribes feature is available.
